Roles
Blake serves as President of designmotors and cofounder of sister company, findmotors. In his role at designmotors, Blake is responsible for daily business operations, maintaining customer relationships, as well as detailed design engineering and oversight. He is an experienced motor and generator professional, with a wide variety of experience across machine types and with a passion for providing clients with custom solutions that difficult applications demand.
Previous Expertise
Prior to designmotors, Blake served as Engineering Manager for Louis Allis. Before that, Blake served as an electrical design engineer at Electric Machinery Company, with time spent in Service Engineering as well. Before that time, Blake also served as a Program Manager for Louis Allis, working on new product lines and factory setup. He also has extensive experience in motor repair shop environments.
Education & Industry Involvement
Blake is a committed lifelong learner in electric machine design, with an engineering degree from University of Wisconsin - Stout and supplementary education on electric motor design through University of Wisconsin – Madison’s WEPMEC consortium. This is all in addition to much “on the job” training beneath several veteran electrical design engineers from various OEM’s.

He is active on several industry technical committees through IEEE (Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers) and API (American Petroleum Institute), helping refine industry standards for industrial motors and generators. Designmotors is a member of EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association) and Blake regularly participates in their events and trainings, as well as periodic involvement in other industry conferences.
What Sets Him Apart
One of Blake’s first words was “motor,” as he grew up watching his father work at and run various electric motor manufacturing and repair operations. As a teenager and throughout college, Blake worked in the shop in roles such as disassembly, parts washing, inventory management, stator winding, and final assembly. In that way, Blake started his motor education “getting his hands dirty” before ever learning the electrical engineering principles behind how these machines operate. He has also been fortunate to work with motors as small as a few HP up to tens of thousands of HP and with very wide experience in applications and motor topologies. He has a mindset that is always looking for the true best value for his clients, whether that’s helping choose an “off the shelf” motor for their application, guiding motor choices through “findmotors”, or designing a custom new motor that legacy OEM’s aren’t willing to handle.
