Roles
Ben serves as Vice President, Head of Operations for REM Industrial Solutions. In this role, he oversees operations for the 80+ year industry leader that provides sales and service of electric motors, pumps & controls. Ben has a team of seven people that report to him and help serve REM’s valued clients.
Previous Expertise
Ben has been a member of the REM team for 16 years. In fact, he started at REM when he was 18 as a parts driver. Shortly after that, he was asked to take over a vacated technician’s role, a position he held for a decade. During that time, he learned pump and motor repair. He then became the shop manager, a role he held for five years. Three years ago, he was promoted to VP, Head of Operations, a position that allows him to leverage expertise in purchasing, sales, management, product lines and vendor management. Prior to joining the REM team, Ben served as a warehouse manager for the Chicago Tribune Media Group.
Education & Industry Involvement
Ben has spent a significant amount of time in shops across the country learning best practices from industry leaders. He holds various certificates of completion in areas such as hydronic heating systems from Bell & Gossett; another on DC operation and repair tips from Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA); large motor repair by EASA; and he holds a certificate of training on motor repair from Mitchell Electronics. He is also Certified for Eaton VFD startup & commissioning. Ben is a certified applicator & installer for several organizations including Loctite products and AEGIS shaft grounding products. Ben often brings in speakers and hosts seminars at REM on topics including SKF laser alignment; belt and alignment training; VFDs and more for customers and employees benefit.
What Sets Him Apart
Ben joined REM straight out of high school and learned most of his skills firsthand in the shop. “I’ve been at REM longer than anyone else,” he says. “I am very hands-on and mechanically inclined. I’m am obsessed with finding solutions for our customers because our response time and solutions are what set us apart.” To help increase productivity, Ben helped design and build REM’s quality management software system that the company uses to analyze inventory. The program, built from scratch, enables real-time inventory and reporting for REM’s staff and customers alike. “Innovations like this help build transparency and trust with our customers, both of which are key to strong customer relationships,” he notes. In Ben’s free time, he likes to golf and spend time with his wife and two children.
